Draw on the Site Map

Pick a tool from the palette, draw areas and lines, and drop the site, boat launch, and equipment pins — with the live size, keyboard shortcuts, and area names for your industry.

Updated October 22, 2026

The site map is the satellite view of a site where you draw the areas and lines that scope the work and drop the pins crews navigate by. Everything starts from the tool palette in the map's top-left corner. While you work, a drawing bar at the bottom tells you what the next click does and shows the size as you go.

Open it from a site under DirectoriesSites on the Map tab. The same map and palette appear on a job's Site Map, on a lead under Sales and BillingLeads (Open map), and on the customer portal's site page.

The tool palette

ToolShortcutWhat it does
MoveVPan and zoom. Clicking the map does nothing else.
AreaADraw a closed shape: a pool, a lawn, a treatment area.
LineLDraw a line: a shoreline, a fence run, a hedge.
Site pinPPlace the site's main pin, the one Directions and routing use.
Boat launchBAquatic sites only. Place where the boat goes in.
EquipmentEOnly when your company tracks site equipment and the site has units on file. Place each unit's pin.

Below the tools, Lengths (Show the length of every edge) labels each edge of every shape in feet, including the one you are drawing.

On a phone-width screen the palette collapses to icons. The zoom buttons sit in the bottom-right corner. The old Draw and Pin menus under the map are gone.

Which tools you see depends on the map and your role:

MapTools
Site Map tab, office rolesMove, Area, Line, Site pin, plus Boat launch on aquatic sites and Equipment where it applies
Site Map tab, roles that only correct GPSMove and Site pin
Job Site MapMove and Site pin, for roles that can correct the site's GPS
Lead mapMove, Area, Line, and Site pin, with an address search beside the palette
Customer portal site pageMove and Equipment, when the site has equipment

On a site's Map tab, changes save as soon as you finish them.

Draw an Area or a Line

  1. Pick the tool

Click Area or Line, or press A or L with the pointer over the map. The cursor becomes a crosshair, and the drawing bar appears at the bottom of the map.

  2. Click the points

The bar's first line tells you what to do: Click the map to start the area, then Add 2 more points, then Click the first point to close. On a pool site it starts with Click around the waterline, not the coping or deck. A line reads Click the map to start the line, then Done when the line is finished. You can drag any point to fix it.

  3. Watch the size

The bar shows the live size as you click: acres for an area on most sites, square feet on a pool site, and feet for a line. A pool site adds the gallons. On a narrower screen the bar drops the instruction line to make room for the size. The Click to close tip on the map still says what to do.

  4. Finish

Close an area by clicking its first point. Once the area has three points, that point shows a ring and a Click to close tip. Or click Done in the bar, or press Enter. Undo removes the last point, and Cancel throws the drawing away.

Each saved shape is listed under the map with its size. Edit lets you drag its points to reshape it. The bar then reads, for example, Editing Pool 1 · drag points to reshape, with Cancel and Save. Remove deletes the shape.

The top-right corner shows the total of every saved area, for example Areas: ~1.42 ac total. It hides while you draw so it does not cover your points.

Place a pin

Pick Site pin, Boat launch, or Equipment, then click the map. The bar reads Click the map to place the site pin (or the boat launch) and offers Cancel. In Boat launch mode on a site that already has one, the bar also offers Remove boat launch.

For Equipment, a row of units appears under the map: Choose equipment, then click the map to place its pin. A unit that is already pinned reads · on map. Click a unit, then click where it sits.

Set site pin moved

The Site map card no longer has its own Set site pin button. Place the pin by hand with the map's Site pin tool. To place it from the street address instead, use Set site pin on the Overview tab's Address card.

Keyboard shortcuts

KeyWhat it does
V, A, L, P, B, EPick that tool. Works only while the pointer is over the map or focus is inside it.
EnterFinish the shape you are drawing, or save the shape you are editing.
EscCancel the drawing, the edit, or the pin you were about to place.
Backspace, Delete, or Cmd/Ctrl+ZUndo the last point.

No shortcut fires while you are typing in a field, so a note that contains the letter A never switches tools.

Area names follow your industry

A new shape is named for what your industry draws.

IndustryFirst area
PoolPool 1
Lawn careLawn area 1
Pest controlTreatment zone 1
General serviceService area 1
AquaticTreatment area 1

Lines are Line 1, Line 2, and so on, except on aquatic sites, where they keep the Treatment area name.

Shapes saved before this change were all named Treatment area 1, Treatment area 2, and so on. Those old defaults now display in your industry's words. A name someone typed is never changed.

Pool sites

A pool is traced at its waterline, so a pool site opens closer than a lawn or a lake. Areas on a pool site measure in square feet, not acres. A saved area's label reads, for example, 512 sq ft water · ~19,000 gal (avg 5 ft) · 96 ft perimeter.

On the site's Map tab, the gallons use the pool's own depths when the Pool Profile has them. With no depth on file, they use a typical depth: 5 ft for an inground pool, 4 ft above ground, and 3 ft for a spa. The label then says assumed, as in avg 5 ft, assumed.

To turn a trace into the pool's volume, choose Use as pool surface on the area. Measure a Pool From the Satellite Map walks through it.

On the customer portal

When a site has equipment on file, the portal's Site Map shows the palette with Move and Equipment. Its note reads Use Equipment on the map to mark where each unit sits. The site pin, boat launch, and areas stay as your company set them.

On the phone

The field app's Map tab has a Measure mode for sizing something on the spot. It closes an area the same way: tap the first point once the area has three points, or tap Keep. While you draw, the live readout sits in the bottom panel so it does not cover the first point. Both arrive in app 1.4.13. Measurements on the phone are a scratch pad and are not saved to a site.

Verify it worked

  • The shape you drew is listed under the map with its size, under the name you expect.
  • On the Overview tab, the Address card no longer reads No map pin yet once the site pin is placed.
  • With Lengths on, every edge of the shape shows a length in feet.

Frequently asked questions

Where did Draw and Pin go?

The menus under the map were replaced by the tool palette in the map's top-left corner. Area and Line draw, Site pin, Boat launch, and Equipment place pins, and Move goes back to panning.

Where is the Set site pin button?

The Site map card no longer has one. To place the pin by hand, use the map's Site pin tool. To place it from the street address, use Set site pin on the Overview tab's Address card.

Why does my map only show Move and Site pin?

Drawing areas and lines is for office roles. A role that can only correct the site's GPS gets Move and Site pin. The job page's Site Map is the same.

Why do my areas say Pool 1 instead of Treatment area 1?

Areas are named for your industry. Shapes saved under the old default, Treatment area 1, now display in your industry's words. Names someone typed are shown as typed, and aquatic companies keep Treatment area.

Does the letter V switch tools while I type a note?

No. Letter shortcuts only work while the pointer is over the map or focus is inside it, and no shortcut fires while you are typing in a field.
