Set Up Company Holidays That Repeat Every Year

Subscribe to a holiday calendar and add your own days off once, so schedules skip them every year without retyping dates each season.

Updated September 25, 2026

Company holidays are days the whole company is off. Automations skip them when they pick a date for new work, including recurring pond visits, follow-ups, retries, and route auto-apply. Office Ops treats them as zero crew capacity. Instead of typing each date every season, subscribe to a holiday calendar and set your own holidays to repeat, and the dates stay right every year.

  1. Open company holidays

Go to SettingsCompany and open Company holidays.

  2. Subscribe to a holiday calendar

Under Holiday calendars, click Add a holiday calendar. If you have no holidays yet, click Add US holidays instead. Pick a calendar and click Add. Use Show the next 12 months to see its dates before you add it.

  3. Uncheck the days your crews work

Click Choose days on the calendar and uncheck any holiday you don't take off. Each holiday shows its rule and its next date.

  4. Add your own holidays

Under Your own holidays, click Add holiday, give it a name, and choose One time or Every year. For a date you already entered, click Repeat every year… and pick the pattern whose next dates look right.

  5. Save

Click Save Company Settings. Check Upcoming days off to confirm the next 12 months.

Which calendar to pick

CalendarWhat it closesWeekend holidays
US common business closuresNew Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and the day after, Christmas Eve, Christmas DaySaturday → Friday, Sunday → Monday. Christmas Eve moves to the Friday before.
US federal holidays (OPM)The 11 federal holidaysSaturday → Friday, Sunday → Monday
US bank holidays (Federal Reserve)The same 11 days Federal Reserve Banks closeSunday → Monday. Saturday stays on Saturday.
Canada — federally regulated (Canada Labour Code)The 10 general holidays in the Canada Labour CodeSaturday or Sunday → the following Monday

The Canada calendar follows federal rules. Provincial holidays such as Family Day are not in it; add them under Your own holidays.

When two holidays in one calendar land on the same day after a weekend move, the moved one keeps moving to the next free weekday, so you never lose a day off. For example, in 2027 Christmas Day is a Saturday, so US common business closures closes Thursday, December 23 for Christmas and Friday, December 24 for Christmas Eve.

How repeating holidays work

Every year offers these patterns:

  • Same date every year, like December 25, with a choice of what happens On a weekend.
  • A weekday in the month, like the 4th Thursday in November or the last Monday in May. Shift moves it a few days, which is how the day after Thanksgiving is set up.
  • A weekday on or near a date, like the Monday on or before May 24.
  • Days from Easter, like Good Friday.

Every pattern shows its next three dates as you edit it.

Also close on the weekend day itself

This is on by default. When a holiday falls on a weekend and is observed on Friday or Monday, the Saturday or Sunday stays closed too. That matters if your crews work weekends. Turn it off if your crews work that weekend day and take the Friday or Monday off instead.

Booked jobs don't move

A new holiday keeps automations from scheduling new work that day. It doesn't move jobs that are already booked. After you save, OpsVara lists open jobs on any new holiday. Click a date to open that day on the Schedule and move them.

Verify it worked

  • Upcoming days off lists each holiday with where it came from: the calendar's name or Your holiday.
  • On the Schedule month view, holidays show on next year's dates too.

OpsVara keeps holiday calendars up to date. If a calendar changes, your holidays update on their own, and days you unchecked stay unchecked.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to add holidays again every season?

No. A holiday calendar and any holiday you set to repeat Every year work out the right date each year on their own. Only One time holidays stay on the single date you picked.

We work Columbus Day. Can we still use the US federal calendar?

Yes. Open the calendar with Choose days and uncheck Columbus Day. Unchecked days stay unchecked when OpsVara updates the calendar.

What happens to jobs already booked on a new holiday?

They stay where they are. Holidays only keep automations from scheduling new work on those days. After you save, OpsVara lists any open jobs already on a new holiday, with a link to that day on the Schedule so you can move them.

Independence Day falls on a Saturday. Which day are we closed?

It depends on the calendar. US federal holidays and US common business closures observe it on Friday. US bank holidays leave it on Saturday, because banks stay open that Friday. With Also close on the weekend day itself checked, the Saturday is closed too.

Why can't I edit holidays?

Only company admins and office managers can change company holidays. Everyone else sees the list of upcoming days off.
