Configure Treatment Protocols

Tell the plan which product to reach for when a crew taps a symptom, which products go together or never together, and what goes on every visit, for pool, pond and lake, and lawn work types.

A Treatment Protocol turns the symptoms your crew taps on a visit into products on the plan, your way. SettingsTreatment Protocols holds one protocol per work type that shows symptom chips: Routine Service and Specialty Service on a pool account, Lake Treatment, Pond Maintenance and Specialty Service on an aquatic account, Lawn Treatment on a lawn account. When you finish this article you will know how the plan is built, what each rule type does, and how to tell what the plan will do before a crew sees it.

How the plan is built

The four sections on the page are the four stages the plan goes through, in order.

StageWhat it does
1. Always IncludeProducts on every plan for this work type, whichever symptoms are tapped. On aquatic accounts each product can be limited to contracts carrying an add-on.
2. CombinationsWhen every symptom in a combination is tapped together, its products go on the plan. It can replace the per-symptom rules for those symptoms so the plan does not stack products.
3. Symptom RulesOne row per symptom. Pick One, Use Together, or no rule at all, which means every product tagged for the symptom.
4. Never TogetherIf the first product is on the plan, the second comes off. Applied last, to whatever the stages above produced.

A product a rule names but that cannot be used today is dropped and reported, never silently kept. That covers a product that is inactive, not allowed on the work type, outside its season window, blocked on irrigation water, or needing a contract add-on the job does not have. When an exclusive rule has nothing available, the plan reports the symptom as uncovered instead of pretending it was handled.

Pool accounts

Chemistry doses come from the water test and SettingsWater Chemistry as before. A pool protocol shapes only the symptom lines on the Dose Plan, for example which algaecide comes first when a crew taps Green algae, and what never goes in with it.

Symptom rules

Each row under Symptom Rules reads as a sentence: Pick one of Flumioxazin → Tribune, Use together Copper + Seaclear, or Tagged products when there is no rule. Open a row to edit it.

SettingMeaning
Pick OneOne product goes on the plan. The first in your order that is available wins, and a product that also treats another tapped symptom is preferred so one jug covers two problems. Products under Backups are kept for the applicator and never recommended automatically.
Use TogetherEvery product under Products to Apply and Also Apply goes on the plan.
Only These ProductsOn: the plan uses only the products in the rule and warns if none are available. Off: other products tagged for the symptom are added as well. New rules start with this on.
Never Use When This Symptom Is PresentRemoved from the whole plan when the symptom is tapped, whatever added them.
Only on Contracts WithAquatic accounts. The rule fires only when the job's contract carries every selected add-on. A rule that is gated out and marked Only These Products adds nothing.
  1. Choose the work type

Use Protocol For at the top. Each work type has its own protocol. Switching with unsaved changes asks first.

  2. Add a rule

Find the symptom row and click Add Rule. Choose Pick One or Use Together, add products in order of preference, and decide whether to keep Only These Products on.

  3. Save

Click Save Protocol in the bar at the bottom. The bar reads Unsaved changes until you do, and leaving the tab with changes pending asks you to confirm. Discard Changes returns to the last saved version.

Combinations

Add a combination when two symptoms together call for a different answer than each on its own, for example Duckweed + Curly-leaf pondweed → Tribune. Pick the symptoms, the products, and how to apply them. Replace the Per-Symptom Rules skips the individual handling for those symptoms when the combination fires; leave it off to add the combination products on top, or replace only some of the symptoms' rules.

Never Together

Add a pair when one product must not share a plan with another. The rule is directed: if Tribune is on the plan, Aquathol K comes off. Tick Both ways when neither should appear with the other. Pairs are applied on the finished plan, so the order you add them in never changes the result.

Verify it worked

  1. Open the Application Rates & Coverage panel under the protocol. A symptom covered by a rule but with no tagged product now reads Covered by rule.
  2. Run a visit on this work type and tap the symptom. The plan line reads For Duckweed · Treatment Protocol rule for a rule pick, always included by your Treatment Protocol for stage 1, or tagged product when no rule applied.
  3. Deactivate a product a rule names, run the visit again, and confirm the response lists the product as dropped with a reason.

Troubleshooting

What you seeCheck
A rule row says Rule has no products yetAdd a product or remove the rule. An empty rule does nothing.
A symptom is missing from the rules listIt is not scoped to this work type under SettingsSymptoms.
A product you added does not appear in the pickersOnly active products associated with this work type, or with no work type restriction, are offered. Parts, supplies and equipment are never offered.
Save fails naming a product or symptomThe product is inactive or belongs to another account, or the symptom is archived or an equipment failure. Fix the reference and save again.
A Soliven recommendation was skippedThe AI's pick was on a Never Use list or a Never Together pair for a product already on the plan. The visit response says which.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a protocol at all?

No. Without one, every product tagged for a tapped symptom goes on the plan. Add a protocol when you want to choose between tagged products, name a product that is not tagged, keep two products apart, or put something on every visit.

What is the difference between Pick One and Use Together?

Pick One puts a single product on the plan, the first in your order that is available, preferring one that also covers another selected symptom. Use Together puts every listed product on the plan. Backups under Pick One are never recommended automatically.

A symptom shows "Not shown on any visit" or is missing from the rules list.

The list only shows symptoms scoped to the selected work type under Settings → Symptoms. Scope the symptom to this work type and it appears here.

The plan said a product was dropped. Why?

The product is inactive, not allowed on this work type, outside its season, blocked for irrigation water, needs a contract add-on the job lacks, or is on a "never use" or "never together" list for a selected product. The visit response names the reason.

Does a pool protocol change the chemistry doses?

No. Chlorine, pH, alkalinity and the other readings are dosed from the water test as before. A pool protocol only shapes the symptom lines, such as which algaecide the Dose Plan reaches for when a crew taps Green algae.
